Kansas VINE means Victim Information and Notification Everyday. The Kansas Attorney General describes it as a free, confidential, voluntary service available around the clock by web, app, or telephone, with language help. Its most important local boundary is simple: Kansas VINE covers adults housed in county jails, including a person in the Marshall County Jail. It does not contain offenders held in Kansas Department of Corrections prisons.
VINELink can report current county-jail custody or a change supplied by the participating jail feed. Events may include release, transfer, or escape. A “released” or “no longer in custody” result means the jail reported that its prior custody status ended. It does not by itself show dismissal, bond, sentence completion, transfer destination, or final discharge from all legal control.
The service also differs from the Marshall County court record. VINE answers a custody-notification question. A court order answers why the judge authorized bond, probation, dismissal, sentencing, or another disposition. The jail movement entry records when physical custody changed. That field can change and is not proof that release occurred. For a county detainee, a pending case may have no fixed release date at all. Bond, a new order, another hold, transport, or sentence credit can affect the actual departure.
Note: VINELink is near real time, but a same-day feed change may still lag the jail’s own custody record.
Register Marshall County Release Alerts
Registration begins from the matching in-custody record. The available interface may offer phone, text, email, TTY, or app delivery. Select the channel that can be checked reliably, then follow the prompts. An alert reports a custody-status change. It should lead to confirmation, especially when the event could be a transfer rather than release to the community.

Registration is confidential, yet it cannot guarantee that every device or carrier will deliver a notice at once. More than one offered channel can reduce the chance that a single device issue causes a missed alert.
Marshall County VINELink Phone Conflict
Current official Kansas materials disagree on the main VINE telephone number. The Attorney General landing page shows 1-866-574-7463. The official 2026 brochure and a February 19, 2026 news release show 1-866-574-8463. Because one digit differs, silently choosing either number would create a real risk of failed access.
The safest route is the official web system. Anyone who needs telephone access should compare the number against the current Attorney General page and brochure before calling. TTY is not part of that conflict in the reviewed material. It is listed as 1-866-847-1298.
Note: The two main phone numbers differ in the third digit of the final four-number group, so verify before dialing.
Marshall County Notification System Switch
Kansas has a sharp divide between jail and prison notifications. VINE covers adults in county jails and excludes KDOC prison offenders. KDOC Victim Services covers eligible notifications for offenders in KDOC facilities or supervised by KDOC. It excludes county jail, probation, and non-KDOC Community Corrections cases.
A transfer from Marshall County Jail to KDOC therefore requires a system switch. The VINE transfer alert closes one county-jail phase. KASPER then supplies the public custody or supervision record, while eligible notification registration moves to KDOC Victim Services. The KDOC form requests contact information plus the offender name, county of conviction, and case number, with a separate form for each offender. Probation remains outside both routes when KDOC is not the supervising authority. Marshall County Court Services can supervise some misdemeanor and felony probation and some people released on bond. Community Corrections handles intensive felony probation. A county VINE alert does not register someone for changes in those local programs, and the KDOC form expressly excludes probation and non-KDOC Community Corrections cases.

Seek an existing document rather than asking staff to create a new timeline or legal explanation. Useful items include the booking identifier, date and time custody ended, release authority or recorded type, and public receiving-agency information. Some details may be redacted or withheld under Kansas law.
Do not treat a no-match as proof: verify spelling, identity, feed timing, and any transfer before concluding that a person was released.
The same-name-county problem also matters. Search results for Marshall County agencies in Alabama, Iowa, Indiana, or other states do not answer a Marysville, Kansas custody question.
