Marshall County Jail Release Paths
The Marshall County Jail is the local detention point for people awaiting court, serving a local jail sentence, held on bond or probation matters, or awaiting transport. It is operated by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, not the Kansas Department of Corrections. That distinction controls both the release record and the search tool.
A bond, dismissal, acquittal, judge’s order, or completed local sentence may return someone to the community. Court Services or Community Corrections may then supervise the person. A KDOC commitment means the person left the county building but remained incarcerated. Other possible movements include another county jail, treatment, federal custody, or immigration custody. The official facility page does not publish which path occurred.
| Local movement | What follows |
|---|---|
| Community release | Confirm the jail entry and filed court order |
| KDOC transfer | Continue with KASPER |
| Other county | Contact the named receiving jail |
| Federal transfer | Use the federal docket and later BOP locator |
| ICE transfer | Use the ICE locator with exact identifiers |
Confirm Marshall County Jail Release
The facility publishes no live roster, historical roster, released tab, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, booking page, photograph gallery, update schedule, or online retention period. A missing web result therefore proves nothing. The direct route starts with the jail and follows the recorded destination.
- Call 785-562-3141 and ask whether the person is presently confined.
- If not, ask whether staff can identify the actual date and time local custody ended and whether the entry records release or transfer.
- Request the existing booking record, movement or release-log entry, release authority, public receiving-agency field, and booking photograph.
- Search the Marshall County criminal case for the bond, dismissal, sentencing, probation, commitment, revocation, or discharge order.
- When the entry names another custodian, verify the person in that agency’s own system.
Check the state and address. Released rosters from other places named Marshall County do not describe the Marysville, Kansas jail.
The full named-person workflow appears on the Marshall County released inmate search. The local jail record remains essential even when KASPER, VINE, BOP, or ICE later shows a change because those systems answer different custody questions.
Marshall County Jail Records Contact
The official Sheriff page identifies the active Kansas agency. No public records hours, release-record fee, photo charge, or fixed production period is posted, so ask for current terms and a cost estimate.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Jail107 South 13th Street
Marysville, KS 66508
Phone: 785-562-3141
Fax: 785-562-2743
If routing is unclear, the county’s open-records contact is Sandra K. Wilson, Marshall County Clerk, 1201 Broadway, P.O. Box 391, Marysville, KS 66508. The Clerk lists 785-562-5361 and `swilson@mscoks.org` and directs requesters to call or email for the Open Records Request Form.
Ask for electronic copies and name a narrow date range. Useful terms include booking record, jail custody movement entry, commitment and release log, actual release date and time, recorded release classification, receiving agency, court case number, and booking photograph. If any part is withheld, ask for the statutory basis.
Marshall County Jail Operations
The official jail information page describes commissary, visits, and mail, but not release processing. It lists visits for Thursday and Sunday afternoons through the cited kiosk and video process. These details help identify the current facility. They do not show whether someone was released.
The page also says mail for a person no longer confined will be returned. That is an operational clue, not a release lookup. Returned mail may be delayed and cannot tell a community release from a transfer. The jail or a dated record request is the right source for a custody endpoint.
Marshall County Jail Record Meaning
The actual date and time custody ended is the key local field. A booking date only proves custody began. A release type must be quoted from or reconciled with the source. Bond is not dismissal. Time served can still be followed by probation. A court order can have several grounds. Transfer is continued custody. Escape and death must never be restated as an ordinary release.
Identifiers keep records aligned. The county booking number refers to the local episode. The district court case number refers to the prosecution. A KDOC number belongs to state corrections. Federal and immigration systems use their own numbers. Names alone are risky, especially when other states have counties and sheriff sites with the same name.
- Booking
- The intake episode at the county jail.
- Movement
- A recorded change in custody or location.
- Release authority
- The legal basis stated in the record.
- Detainer
- A hold tied to another authority.
Marshall County Court Verification
The court file explains why local custody changed. Search for the journal entry, bond or release order, dismissal, sentence, jail credit, probation, KDOC commitment, revocation, amended sentence, or discharge. A closed case label does not prove that the person walked free. The disposition may be prison, probation, a local term, or another outcome, and transport can occur later.
Marshall County District Court is at 1201 Broadway in Marysville and provides a public terminal plus a records form. The local FAQ lists page and staff-research charges and says searches are not conducted before 8:30 a.m. or after 4:30 p.m. A court paper supplies legal authority, but the Sheriff’s movement record is still the better source for the precise time local custody ended.
Marshall County Jail KDOC Transfers
A person committed to KDOC has been released from the Sheriff’s physical control but not from incarceration. Open KASPER, accept the disclaimer, and search by KDOC number when known. Otherwise compare the name with birth data, conviction county, case number, photograph, movements, and location.
“Inmate” indicates current KDOC confinement. “Parole” means the person left prison under supervision. “Discharged” means the KDOC sentence and supervision obligation ended. KASPER’s “Anticipated release date” is an estimate, not proof of actual release, and the repository updates each working day.
Marshall County Federal Transfers
A movement to federal or immigration custody calls for a new search. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and can show a past release date or RELEASED status. “IN TRANSIT” is not release. A BOP result may also reflect pretrial, material-witness, or other custody, so use the federal docket for context.
The ICE locator accepts a nine-digit A-number with country of birth or an exact name with country of birth. Its limited recently released coverage does not make a nonmatch proof of release. No evidence shows that Marshall County operates an ICE detention facility.
Marshall County Jail Since 1979
The county’s construction page says the operating jail opened in 1979. It documents concerns involving modern standards, sight lines, intake and meeting space, technology, isolation, ventilation, and mold-restricted areas. Those findings provide local history but do not alter the current release process.
The same page described a proposed new law-enforcement center and an earlier construction timeline. Later reporting still showed officials discussing remodel and building choices, and the official jail page still lists 107 South 13th Street. The proposal must not be described as a completed facility.
Marshall County Jail KORA Requests
Kansas Open Records Act policy favors access unless another law permits closure. K.S.A. 45-218 allows reasonable actual costs and advance payment. It also requires action by the end of the third business day. Action can mean access, a denial with a legal basis, or a detailed delay notice with the earliest available time. It does not guarantee that a full jail file will arrive within three days.
K.S.A. 45-221 permits closure of several record classes. Juvenile, medical, expunged, sealed, victim, security, and investigative details may be withheld or redacted. Ask for segregable public parts rather than treating one redaction as a denial of the whole record. The defined public correctional subset applies differently to KDOC records, so a county booking request and a state correctional request should go to their respective custodians.
Marshall County Release Unknowns
The county has not published release-processing hours, a physical exit door, a family waiting area, weekend or holiday practices, property pickup rules, bond-payment methods, a current bond schedule, approved bond agents, a booking fee, pay-to-stay charges, transportation help, or release reentry services. These facts should not be guessed from another jail’s policy.
Call before planning a pickup or bringing payment. Ask only for the current facility procedure. If the answer affects a record question, request the existing written policy or custody entry. Operational information can change faster than a court record, and the absence of a posted policy does not establish what staff will do in an individual case.
