Marshall Booking Photo Records
A mugshot is an identification photograph created during a booking or correctional process. It documents that agency’s encounter at that time. It does not show why the case ended, whether charges were dismissed, whether a conviction followed, or whether the person is now free of supervision. Those answers come from the release movement, court orders, and later corrections status.
Kansas open-records law supports access to some agency-held images. K.S.A. 45-221(a)(29) allows closure of some identifiable correctional information while requiring a defined public subset that includes a photograph and identifying details. That state-corrections rule does not turn every Marshall County booking file into an automatic online gallery. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, medical, security, and other protected information may still be withheld.
A released person usually disappears from a live custody list. The underlying booking and movement records may remain, subject to retention and disclosure rules. Marshall County publishes no online retention period for booking photos or release entries.
Marshall Released Mugshot Channels
Each photo channel has a narrow scope. A Kansas prison image is not necessarily the photo taken at Marshall County Jail. A registry image applies only to a person with a qualifying registration duty. A news photograph may not be a booking image at all.
| Channel | Photo available? | Access and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Marshall County online roster | No official gallery found | No current roster, released tab, archive, or photo results are published. |
| Sheriff records request | Request it | Ask for the existing booking photograph with the booking and movement entry; disclosure and cost must be confirmed. |
| KASPER | Commonly | A KDOC offender photo may appear, but it is a state-corrections image and the displayed image date may not be the date taken. |
| KBI registry | Sometimes | Only qualifying registered offenders; not a general released-inmate source. |
| Local news | Select cases | A story can supply a lead, but publication is selective and does not prove release. |
| Federal systems | Generally no public mugshot path | BOP is not a mugshot gallery, and USMS says federal-prisoner photographs are not released to the public. |
VINELink can report a county-jail custody change, yet it should not be treated as Marshall County’s permanent photo archive. A VINE release event also does not explain whether the person entered the community, transferred, or completed the case.
No Marshall Kansas Photo Gallery
No official Marshall County, Kansas sheriff app, social release feed, recent-release gallery, or online booking-photo archive was found. The official Marshall County Sheriff page and jail material provide local contact information but no photo search. That absence makes a direct records request the primary local photo channel.
Same-name counties create a serious false match. Search engines return polished rosters and apps from Marshall County in Alabama, Indiana, and Iowa. Some show released or archived filters and photographs. They do not document a booking in Marysville, Kansas. Confirm all five local markers before relying on a result: Kansas, Marysville, 107 South 13th Street, 785-562-3141, and the county’s ks283.cichosting.com domain.
Request Marshall Booking Photos
Send a narrow request to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office at 107 South 13th Street, Marysville, KS 66508. The jail phone is 785-562-3141. The county does not publish a booking-photo fee, retention schedule, production time, or separate photo policy, so ask about availability and cost rather than assuming the image must be delivered without review.
- Identify the person by full name and date of birth if known, plus a tight booking date range.
- Ask for the existing booking photograph, booking record, and custody release or movement-log entry.
- Request the booking number, actual custody start and end, release or transfer classification, and related case number.
- Ask for electronic copies and a fee estimate before staff begins chargeable work.
- If material is withheld, request the specific statutory basis for the decision.
If routing is unclear, the Marshall County Clerk’s open-records contact provides the county form by calling 785-562-5361 or emailing swilson@mscoks.org. The request should seek existing records. It should not ask staff to create a narrative, judge the person, or infer what happened after release.
The county open-records page shows the local request route used for Marshall records.
Review the Marshall County open-records contact before sending the booking-photo request.
The official page helps route the request, while the Sheriff remains the custodian to ask about the jail photograph and custody movement.
Marshall Photo Request Timing
The Kansas Open Records Act favors public access unless another law permits or requires closure. Under K.S.A. 45-218, a custodian may charge reasonable actual costs and require advance payment. The agency must act as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day.
That deadline is often misunderstood. The custodian may provide access, deny the request with a legal basis, or explain the cause of delay and state the earliest time and place the record will be available. The law does not promise that every Marshall County mugshot will be produced in three business days.
A precise request reduces search time and identity error. Include one booking period and the related case number if available. If the only goal is the photo, still ask for enough booking and movement information to confirm that the image belongs to the right person and Kansas facility.
Keep the agency response with the image. A filename copied out of context can lose the booking date, source, and disclosure terms that make the photograph understandable.
KDOC Photos After Marshall Transfer
A person transferred from Marshall County Jail to a Kansas prison enters a different record system. KASPER commonly displays a KDOC offender photograph. State law places photographs within the mandatory public subset of specified correctional information, subject to applicable limits. The image can support identity, but it may not be the earlier county booking photo.
KASPER warns that its database image date may not be the actual date the photograph was taken. Compare the KDOC number and other identifiers, then read the custody or supervision status separately. A photo persists as an identification field even after a person reaches parole, postrelease supervision, or discharge.
When the public record does not answer the question, submit a focused request through the KDOC records-request portal. Ask for an existing publicly disclosable photograph and movement or release record for the named person and KDOC number.
The KDOC portal provides the state request starting point for a photo tied to state custody.
Open the current KDOC request portal to review its submission route.
This route applies to KDOC records. It does not replace a Sheriff request for the photograph created during a Marshall County Jail booking.
Other Marshall Release Photo Sources
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation registered-offender search may display a photograph for someone required to register for a qualifying sex, violent, or drug offense. Most released detainees are not registrants. Registry presence does not prove an exact jail release date or release reason, and the KBI warns that its information may contain errors. Confirm the underlying case and agency record.
MSC News and the Marysville Advocate may publish a photo in a newsworthy case. A report can point to names, dates, and a case number, but it is not the jail’s custody record. Publication is selective. The image might be supplied by police, taken in court, or made for the story rather than at booking.
Commercial aggregators can retain images long after release. They are not authoritative and are not linked here. If one appears in a search, verify the state, county, facility, person, source date, and release classification against an official record. Payment or removal language on a commercial page is not a Marshall County government process.
Federal channels are narrower. The Bureau of Prisons locator is not a mugshot gallery. The U.S. Marshals Service policy says it does not release federal-prisoner personal histories, photographs, or arrival and departure times to the public. A local Sheriff photo may still exist when a person was booked in Marshall County before transfer.
Expunged Marshall Photo Records
Kansas conviction expungement under K.S.A. 21-6614 often measures eligibility from satisfaction of the sentence or discharge from probation, community corrections, parole, postrelease supervision, conditional release, or a suspended sentence. Listed categories commonly use three- or five-year structures. DUI rules, registration duties, exclusions, and offense details can change eligibility.
After an expungement order, the clerk sends a certified copy to KBI, which notifies other criminal-justice agencies. The statute generally bars a custodian from disclosing the expunged arrest, conviction, diversion, and incarceration records except for listed requests. Therefore, an official portal nonmatch may reflect expungement. It does not prove that no booking or release history ever existed.
Arrest-record expungement follows a separate law, K.S.A. 22-2410. Neither process should be described as an automatic deletion command to every private publisher. No Kansas-specific mugshot-site or anti-pay-to-remove statute was located in the official current statute research. That narrow finding is not a promise that no other law or remedy could apply.
For an official image, direct an expungement or correction question to the agency holding the record and provide the relevant order. For a privately copied image, identify the publisher’s stated correction or removal procedure. Do not pay a party that falsely presents itself as the Sheriff, court, or another government custodian.
Note: A booking photograph proves only that the pictured person was photographed in that agency process, not the final case result.
